Dreamy winter destination wedding in the Winter Wonderland of the Austrian Alps in Kitzbühel, Tirol, Austria – KARINA & STEFAN
Part 2. The I DO’s
We started planning this luxury winter destination wedding in the Austrian Alps around this time last year – a very intense adventure that we had the honor and pleasure to guide Karina and Stefan through for their winter wonderland dream wedding in February 2019. Karina had moved a while ago from Canada to the Netherlands, and Stefan had proposed on top of the mountain in Kitzbühel, Austria, as they were often in this cute Alpine city (famous for the yearly ski championship by the way) for their winter vacations. So, the choice was quite obvious: they wanted their friends and family there to celebrate their marriage.
That’s where we stepped in. There were a few must-haves: 4 days of events at different venues, a unitary design concept, transforming each event day into a magical winter wonderland setting, and well… there were a few keywords: fir trees, pine cones (lots of lots of pine cones, and definitely 2 of those little bride and groom pine cones :)), fairy lights, a horse sledge, cotton flowers, Tyrolean dancers… oh! and cake! Beautiful cake, little cakes, mulled wine and hot chocolate.
Three Kitzbühel trips later and 250 planning hours later, the big day had arrived. We started with an intimate welcome dinner on a Thursday, a cocktail evening for all guests on the Friday, and the wedding day on the Saturday, followed by a brunch on the Sunday. But we’ll tell you all about the adjacent events in our next post. This one is all about the big day.
January-February 2019 were pretty heavy winter months in Tirol – mountains of snow everywhere. So you can imagine what relief and joy we felt when Karina and Stefan’s winter wonderland was indeed bathed in this super friendly sun, snow shining, church bells ringing, fir trees scent filling the baroque church of St. Andreas and the ballroom at Hotel Kitzhof.
If I could do it all again, I wouldn’t change a thing! – we selected Irene and Mihai based on the fantastic reviews- and let me tell you they did NOT disappoint! They both arranged 3 parties for us. Rehearsal dinner, a cocktail party and the wedding. The attention to detail on everything was just totally worth it! My husband and I did actually very little throughout the processs- so we really had no idea how anything would turn out. Well. It was better then I could have imagined. Irene did a lot of the picking and choosing herself ( great taste!!) and everything was just so well taken care of. If you are looking for a wedding planner Irene is just amazing – listen to her advice too! I learned she is always right about everything!! Throughout the process Mihai and Irene were at the helm of the ship, and they just did a brilliant job. All of our guests were thrilled, and we had the most beautiful wedding. Like a fairytale! Thank you so much HIGH EMOTION WEDDINGS!!!!!

Our special thanks go to Kunstgärtnerei Doll Salzburg for implementing our wedding design concept so wonderfully, for being there throughout the event, working 4 days non-stop to transform every venue into the winter wonderland fairy tale Karina and Stefan were dreaming of. Karin and Melissa, you ladies rock! Thank you once again!
This church exit was everything! Snow capped mountains, the happiest people and the snow confetti made it all even dreamier! And of course, what could’ve been better than a horse-drawn sledge-carriage?
Back at Hotel Kitzhof, a wintery sweets bar featuring a hot chocolate and mulled wine station along with a branded donut wall by Cake Couture.
When it was time to get the party started, thousands of fairy lights and candles lit up the ballroom of the hotel venue – a glorious culmination of the wedding design we had envisioned and planned in detail over the past 4 months. Table centrepieces with an abundance of fir twigs, pine cones, ranunculus, cotton flowers, snow roses, golden eucalyptus, red berries, grey linen table cloths, fir twig placemats, snowball muslin napkins, and even the ceiling panels were adorned with fir garlands.
Some of the decoration highlights were the seating chart made of engraved wooden slices by Delicious Wedding (Doro, thank you for all the stationery beauty of the best quality!), the photo wall covered in fir twigs, cotton flowers, pine cones and fairy lights, and oh that Christmas-tree-red-carpet magic pathway leading to the ballroom!
Besides Karina and Stefan’s favourite band from Portugal, The Washingtons, we had traditional Tyrolean horn players and dancers warming up the atmosphere, before the first dance on the sparklers lit dance floor.
While wishing the couple all the very best for their future together and of course thanking them for their trust and the thrill of putting together their beautiful destination winter wedding in Austria, we are forever grateful to the amazing team of vendors that made it all come true with such passion and dedication.
